About the app

What is Safer City GO?

A consumer safety app with three pillars: predictive crime-aware navigation, one-tap SOS to a 24/7 control room, and live family tracking via Family Circle. Plus the Verified Crime Incidents Map — every report vetted by AI before it goes live.

Is it free?

Yes — Bronze is free and includes the live crime map, smart reroute and family tracking. Silver (R39.99/month) adds the SOS panic button to a 24/7 control room; Gold (R49.99/month) adds 14-day My Circle history and family driving habits. Family plans for 2, 4 or 6 members are available on Silver and Gold.

Which countries is it available in?

The SOS responder dispatch is currently active in South Africa. The crime map, navigation, family tracking, and reporting work internationally — international expansion of responder dispatch is in progress (USA via RapidSOS / 911 next).

Which phones does it work on?

iPhone running iOS 14 or later, Android phones running Android 8 or later. Apple Watch and Huawei Watch support is coming soon.

SOS & emergency response

What happens when I press SOS?

Your location, profile, and emergency contacts go straight to our 24/7 control room. A trained dispatcher calls you within 15 seconds. They verify your safe-word, then dispatch the closest certified responder (armed response, medical, fire, or roadside, depending on the service type).

What's a safe-word?

A single word (4-12 characters) you set in Settings. When the dispatcher calls you after a panic event, they ask for it. The correct word cancels the dispatch. The wrong word is a duress signal — we silently dispatch anyway and your phone screen shows nothing changed, so anyone watching doesn't see anything.

What if I don't answer the call?

We treat silence as confirmation and dispatch anyway. Better to send help when not needed than miss when it matters.

Does it replace 10111 / 112 / 911?

No. Always call your local emergency number first when you can. Safer City GO is a complement: faster than dialling, with your location and profile pre-shared so dispatchers don't have to ask. In supported regions we route to armed-response partners directly; elsewhere SOS contacts your emergency contacts via SMS and WhatsApp.

Crime map & reporting

Where does the crime data come from?

Three sources: (1) official records from police and partner control rooms, (2) community reports submitted by users like you, (3) data from partner security companies. All vetted by our AI confidence-scoring layer before publication.

How current is the data?

New verified incidents appear on the map within minutes. The 24h / 7d / 30d / 60d filters let you choose the time window. Locations are slightly fuzzed for residential incidents to protect victim identity.

What does "Verified" mean?

Every report is scored by our AI for credibility before it appears publicly. Reports below threshold go to manual review; reports above threshold are auto-promoted. Official records bypass vetting. This stops noise and false reports from cluttering the map.

How do I report an incident?

Tap the REPORT button on the map. Pick a category (crime / suspicious / accident). Add a description, photo (optional), and the location is captured automatically. Your report is in the AI vetting pipeline within seconds.

Family Circle

How does Family Circle work?

You invite people from the Circle tab. They get an SMS link, install the app, accept the invite. From then on you see them on a live map. They see you. You can set geofences ("alert me when Sarah gets home") and check-in timers.

Can my family member see my location all the time?

Only while you're in their Family Circle and you have location sharing enabled. You can pause sharing, leave a circle, or remove a member at any time. Everything is consent-based.

How much battery does it use?

The location sharing is battery-aware — it scales back when the phone is stationary and ramps up when you're moving. On a modern iPhone, expect ~3-5% extra drain per day.

Subscriptions & payment

How are subscriptions billed?

On iPhone via Apple App Store, on Android via Google Play, on web via Paystack. Monthly auto-renew until you cancel.

How do I cancel?

Inside the app: Profile → Settings → Subscription → Cancel. Or via your App Store / Google Play account settings.

Do I get refunds?

We don't refund partial months unless the law requires it. You keep access until the end of your current billing period after cancellation.

Privacy & account

Who can see my data?

Only people you authorise (Family Circle members) and our 24/7 control-room dispatchers if you trigger SOS. We don't sell your data to anyone. Full details: Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

In-app: Profile → Settings → Delete my account. Or email info@safercitygo.com. See our Delete Account page for what gets deleted vs kept.

Is the app POPIA / GDPR compliant?

Yes. We're the responsible party under POPIA and a data controller under GDPR. We honour all data-subject rights: access, correction, deletion, portability, objection. Email info@safercitygo.com with "Privacy Request" to exercise them.
