Terms of service
These Terms govern your use of the Safer City GO mobile application and related services provided by Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd. By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Eligibility
You must be 18 years or older to create an account. A parent or guardian may add a minor as a Family Circle member, but the account-holder must be an adult.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password and safe-word confidential. Notify us immediately at info@safercitygo.com if you suspect unauthorised access. You are responsible for activity on your account.
3. Subscriptions and payments
Bronze is free. Paid tiers (Silver and Gold, including their family plans) are billed monthly via our payment processors (Paystack and equivalents) and the App Store / Google Play. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel at any time in your app settings.
Refunds for paid subscriptions are handled under the App Store and Google Play refund policies (or by our payment processor for web billing). For billing queries, contact info@safercitygo.com.
4. Acceptable use
- Do not submit false crime reports. The AI vetting layer flags suspicious submissions and repeated false reporting can result in account suspension.
- Do not abuse the SOS / panic function. SOS is subject to a fair-use policy: abuse, or repeated or malicious false panic triggers, waste responder capacity and may be charged at R475 per call-out (excluding VAT).
- Do not use the Services to harass, stalk, threaten, or otherwise harm others.
- Do not attempt to access systems, data, or accounts you are not authorised to access.
5. SOS and emergency response
SOS dispatch is best-effort. While we operate a 24/7 control room and partner with certified responders in supported regions, we cannot guarantee response time or outcome. The Services do not replace 112, 10111, 911, or your local emergency number — call your local emergency line first whenever possible.
Fair use. Genuine emergencies are always covered. SOS is subject to a fair-use policy: deliberate misuse, or repeated or malicious false activations beyond fair use, are charged to the individual account holder at R475 per call-out (excluding VAT) (see section 4) and may lead to suspension.
6. Crime data
The Verified Crime Incidents Map is informational. We make reasonable efforts to vet reports, but cannot guarantee that every incident shown is accurate, complete, or up-to-date. Do not rely solely on the map for safety decisions.
7. Family Circle
Family Circle members must consent to share their location with you. Removing a member stops all data flow between you. We are not responsible for relationship disputes arising from Circle use.
8. Intellectual property
The Services, brand, design, and content are owned by Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd or our licensors. You may use the Services only as permitted by these Terms.
8.1 No copying of our intellectual property. All intellectual property in the Services — including the software, source code, algorithms, design, look and feel, brand, logos, text, graphics, databases, and the AI models that power Safer City GO — belongs to Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd or its licensors. It may not be copied, reproduced, reverse-engineered, decompiled, scraped, adapted, republished, or otherwise reused, in whole or in part and in any form, without our prior written permission.
8.2 Voices are copyrighted. All voices used in or generated by the app — including recorded and synthesised voice prompts, navigation guidance, and any other voice output — are the exclusive copyrighted property of Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd. They may not be copied, recorded, extracted, sampled, imitated, voice-cloned, or reused for any purpose without our prior written permission.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Safer City Solutions is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Services at any time and delete your account from inside the app or by emailing info@safercitygo.com — see our Delete account page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of South Africa, except where local law in your country gives you a different right.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email.
13. Electronic communication
By using the Services or contacting us electronically, you agree that we may communicate with you electronically (in-app or by email), and that such communications satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing.
14. Third-party links and services
The Services may link to or rely on third-party sites and services we do not control (for example map providers, payment processors, and the app stores). We are not responsible for their content, terms, or privacy practices, and your use of them is at your own risk.
15. Your submissions and ideas
Please do not send us confidential ideas, inventions, or materials without a prior written agreement. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use them to improve the Services, with no obligation to you.
16. Export and legal compliance
You may not access or use the Services where doing so is unlawful, or in violation of the export-control or sanctions laws of South Africa or any other applicable jurisdiction.
17. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms to an affiliate or successor.
18. Force majeure
Except for obligations to pay money, neither party is liable for any delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond its reasonable control.
19. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses arising from your breach of these Terms or applicable law, or your misuse of the Services.
20. Waiver and severability
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that or any other provision. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will stay in force.
21. Language
These Terms are drafted in, and will be interpreted exclusively in, English.
22. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Safer City Solutions (Pty) Ltd regarding your use of the Services.
