Safer City GO launches nationally: a free app that warns South African road users before they reach danger

Johannesburg, South Africa — 7 September 2026 — Safer City Group today announced the national launch of Safer City GO, a free mobile safety application that gives South African motorists and communities live, verified warnings about crime and unrest on the roads around them — before they drive into it.

Available now on Android, iOS and Apple CarPlay, and in 51 languages — including all 11 of South Africa's official languages and 19 more spoken across the continent — Safer City GO turns everyday travel into an informed decision. Road users can see hijacking, smash-and-grab, rock-throwing, protest and public-disorder hotspots on a live map; check a crime risk score for any area before they travel to it; and receive an alert the moment an incident is reported nearby. Users can also report incidents in seconds, and request armed and medical response — or trigger an SOS panic alert — at the tap of a button.

Where our data comes from

Safer City GO is built on verified, multi-source intelligence rather than rumour. Its alerts draw on official South African Police Service (SAPS) crime statistics, ground-level reports from a national network of Community Policing Forums (CPFs), community-verified incident reports — where public-disorder and similar reports must be confirmed by two independent users before they remain on the live map — and licensed data partners. Every report is time-stamped and location-verified, and the platform is engineered to be POPIA-compliant by design.

Backed by more than 900 CPFs across six provinces

Since 2023, Safer City has strengthened partnerships and now works hand-in-hand with more than 900 Community Policing Forums across six provinces — Gauteng, Limpopo, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape, North West and KwaZulu-Natal. These CPFs are the community's eyes on the ground, providing trusted, real-time reporting that feeds directly into the app. The result is a safety network owned by communities and powered by technology.
